古渡乌泥 Gu Du Wu Ni, a scarce naturally mixed Zisha ore. Rather than looking perfectly clean and uniform, the clay has a wonderfully complex character—fine and coarse mineral particles scattered through the body, with little flashes of brown, reddish and golden sand appearing when you look closely.

And that slightly wild texture is exactly why I like it.
We only have one small bundle of this clay, and from it, just two of these little Julun teapots were made.

The shape is a fully handmade interpretation of the old 小巨轮 Xiao Julun form: round belly, raised foot, domed lid, short straight spout and that lovely circular handle. No bottom inscription either. We wanted them simple and old-fashioned, almost like two little pots that quietly wandered out of another time.

Gu Du Wu Ni is also not the easiest clay to work with. With its stronger sandy character and weaker binding compared with finer clays, small forms like this make a lot of sense—and in the hand, that grainy surface gives the little pot so much personality.
