The Hua Ying Yixing Teapot is a teapot design created by the legendary Yixing master Gu Jingzhou, inspired by the traditional Duo Qiu (stacked ball) shape. But instead of simply following tradition, Master Gu envisioned something more delicate—a teapot modeled after a half-bloomed flower bud.
With subtle refinements and graceful reinterpretation, the Hua Ying teapot came to life: round knob, round lid, and round body stacked in harmony on a circular base—like a flower just beginning to open. The name “华颖” reflects this floral inspiration; in classical Chinese, “华” often stood in for “花” (flower), and “颖” conveys brightness and charm. Together, the name evokes the elegance of blossoms and the joy they bring.
Aesthetically, the Hua Ying teapot is known for its upright and graceful silhouette. Its proportions are well-balanced, with curves that echo a rhythmic, orb-like beauty. The teapot features a snug cut-lid design with well-fitted joints for excellent sealing, a short spout for steady pour, and a petite round handle that adds a touch of playfulness. It’s both refined and lovable—no wonder it’s a favorite among Yixing collectors.
If you’re drawn to a teapot that blends tradition with the poetry of form, the Hua Ying is a wonderful place to start.
